Clinton opens season with weekend split

JAMESTOWN | Clinton Community College opened its 2026 men's soccer season with a weekend split, defeating Erie Community College 2-0 on Friday before falling 4-1 to Jamestown Community College on Saturday. Three different Cougars scored over the two matches, with Pryce Parker and Ronan Harms finding the net in Friday's shutout before Kameron Chinchilla scored Clinton's lone goal Saturday. Jamestown built a 2-0 halftime lead Saturday with goals in the sixth and 43rd minutes. Clinton cut the deficit in half in the 68th minute when Chinchilla scored off an assist from Henry Gibson. Jamestown responded two minutes later to restore its two-goal advantage before adding the final goal in the 81st minute. Clinton finished with seven shots, including five on goal. Chinchilla and Gibson each attempted two shots, with both of Gibson's efforts on target. Parker also recorded two shots, including one on goal, while Isaac Merrill had Clinton's other attempt. Jamestown held a 22-7 advantage in shots and an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. The Cougars entered Saturday's match after opening the season with a 2-0 victory over Erie in Williamsville. Parker gave Clinton the lead at 11:35 of the first half, and Harms doubled the advantage with an unassisted goal at 35:44. Neither team scored in the second half as Clinton secured the shutout. Clinton generated 11 of its 17 shots in the first half against Erie and finished with a 17-13 advantage for the match. The Cougars put eight shots on goal compared with three for Erie and held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Gavin Neer made three saves while playing all 90 minutes. Erie goalkeeper Trevor Cleversley stopped six of Clinton's eight shots on goal. Merrill led Clinton with four shots against Erie. Parker and Gibson each attempted three, with Parker putting two on goal. Kingston Tucker had two shots, while Hayden Lozier and Pius Kuffour each put their lone attempt on target. Harms scored on his only shot. The Cougars continue their road schedule at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy at 4 p.m. Wednesday before traveling to SUNY Broome Community College in Binghamton for a 2 p.m. match Saturday.
