Margaret "Peggy" Hunn

WILLSBORO | Margaret "Peggy" Hunn, 96, beloved wife of John Hunn of Willsboro, N.Y., went to be with her Lord on Aug. 22, 2026. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. A native of New Jersey, Peggy was born on Jan. 18, 1930, to Sidney and Evelyn (Albertson) Smith. She was a graduate of Cranford High School and the College of New Jersey, where she earned a degree in health and physical education. In 1951 Peggy married the love of her life, John Hunn, beginning a beautiful journey of faith and family spanning 75 years. Together, they raised seven children: Peter (Carol) Hunn, Cathy (Al) Padilla, Rebecca (Kevin) Walters, Amy (Jamie) Hill, JT Hunn, and James Hunn. Peggy is reunited in heaven with her beloved daughter, Martha. In addition to her parents and daughter, Peggy was predeceased by her siblings, Douglas Smith and Phyllis Germinder. A dedicated educator, Peggy began by sharing her love for fitness as a physical education teacher in New Jersey and Connecticut. She enjoyed a notable tenure at The Master's School in Simsbury, where she also taught movement education and coached field hockey. Peggy expanded her commitment to early childhood development by co-founding the Sonshine Nursery School in Tunkhannock, Pa. Her devotion to children continued wherever life took her; she later organized vibrant community playgroups at the Rouses Point Presbyterian Church and the Essex Community Church. Peggy walked hand-in-hand in ministry with her husband, serving their congregations as a Sunday school teacher and a leader in women's ministries. She especially enjoyed quilting, crafting, gardening, cross-country skiing, sitting by the lake and spending time with family. In addition to her husband and children, Peggy's loving legacy shines brightly through her 12 grandchildren: Eric (Kristen) Hunn, Marta (Esteban) Peralta, Ben Padilla, Lucas (Erin) Padilla, Jacob (Katie) Padilla, Jose Padilla, Mya Walters, Cortney (Mark) Blomberg, Caleb Hill, Jonathan Hunn, Erin Hunn, and Samara Hunn. She was also the adoring great-grandmother of Jeremiah, Abi, Ana, Moriah, Lucia, Leena, Malik, Madison, and Kenny, all of whom brought her immense joy. The Hunn family is most grateful for the loving care shown to Peggy by her devoted caregivers: Stacey, Jenn, Vesta, and Joan. A memorial service will be held at Essex Community Methodist Church in Essex, N.Y., on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to High Peaks Hospice at https://highpeakshospice.org.
