CR Wood Foundation donates impressive $10K to Ti Backpack Program

TICONDEROGA | The Ticonderoga Area Backpack Program recently received a very generous $10,000 grant from the Charles R. Wood Foundation. The CR Wood Foundation's mission is to provide assistance to areas of special need in the Lake George Region and surrounding areas. Not-for-profit organizations with an emphasis on programs for children, healthcare, and the arts are the beneficiaries of Mr. Wood's generosity. A cornerstone of the foundation's philosophy is to contribute to the betterment of children and their families. The foundation embraces and supports grants that have the potential to significantly enhance the quality of life of the child. The backpack program is an all-volunteer organization that provides backpacks filled with nutritious foods to deserving local area children on weekends throughout the school year. In addition, there is also a summer food program which provides a whole week of food in each of eight weeks during July and August. The grant funds will be used exclusively to purchase food from the Regional Food Bank of NE NY, which we provide to the backpack kids and their families. The initial roll-out of the Ticonderoga Area Backpack Program in 2013 served 30 deserving kids at Ticonderoga Elementary. Thanks to the help of generous donors and organizations like CR Wood Foundation, the program has been able to expand from this relatively modest start to seven local area schools and 300 kids. The CR Wood Foundation has been a consistent supporter of the backpack program since its inception.
