Livestock competition, fast rides attracts crowds to Clinton County Fair

MORRISONVILLE | Friday night at the 2026 Clinton County Fair saw lines of cars at the fairground entrance stretching east to the junction with Route 3. Competitors with New York Tractor Pullers Association had arrived hours earlier with big rigs in tow. The daytime crowd gave way to the night's events. And the midway bustled. Midway rides and games are staged and produced by Coleman Brothers Shows, and the booths were busy, music blaring from every gate. Excited kids waited for thrilling turns on rides like the Yoyo, Avengers, the Ferris wheel and the Zipper. At the same time, 4-H competition continued into the afternoon with Swine judging that gathered a crowd. In the 4-H display barn, club projects were on display, sharing projects youth worked on from diverse topics: soils analysis and conservation, floral displays and equestrian technique. In the center of the booth array, a tribute honored the memory of Kennedy Columbus, who was a 4-H member for nine years and president of her club, Tangled Reins, in West Chazy. Animal husbandry brought together horses, chickens, sheep, cows, goats, turkeys and unique breeds of farm animals for judging. Cages were adorned with County Fair ribbons from days of competition. Less familiar in the North Country, two sea lions in Sea Lion Splash slid from one pool into the other, waiting for their show to start. Both females, their names are Syra and Kika, their keeper said. Motors for truck and tractor pulls revved up for the start as the sun began to set, competing with shrieks and laughter from the midway. Clinton County Fair draws over 30,000 visitors through six days of events, agricultural competition, live music, kids games, rides and summer fair food. Fair Manager Michael Perrotte anticipated attendance to top that in this their 78th year. The fair is organized by the Clinton County Agricultural and Industrial Society, a volunteer, non-profit organization. The first fair was held here in 1948.
