Applications open for renewed Upward Bound program

PLATTSBURGH | The federally funded TRIO Upward Bound program hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh has resumed operations and is now accepting applications for eligible students entering the 10th and 11th grades in participating Clinton County school districts for the upcoming academic year. Following notification from the U.S. Department of Education that the program's federal grant has been approved for continuation, Upward Bound staff have begun restoring program operations, reconnecting with participating schools and families, and preparing to resume services for students throughout Clinton County. "We are pleased that this important program will continue serving students in our region," said Dr. Alexander Enyedi, president of SUNY Plattsburgh. "Over the past year, SUNY Plattsburgh submitted multiple formal reconsideration requests and supporting documentation to the U.S. Department of Education, demonstrating the profound impact Upward Bound has on students and families across our region. We are deeply committed to expanding educational access and opportunity, and we are grateful for the opportunity to once again help students prepare for success in higher education through this important program." The Upward Bound Program is currently serving eligible students attending the following Clinton County school districts: -AuSable Valley -Beekmantown -Chazy -Northeastern Clinton -Northern Adirondack -Peru -Plattsburgh -Saranac The program is currently seeking students entering the 10th and 11th grades in these districts. Upward Bound is a federally funded college access program designed to prepare high school students for success in higher education. Participants receive year-round academic support, tutoring, college and career advising, assistance with college admissions and financial aid, college visits, cultural enrichment activities and a summer academic experience designed to strengthen college readiness. As operations resume, program staff are: -Reconnecting with current participants and their families; -Working with school counselors and administrators across participating districts; -Recruiting new students for the upcoming year; -Planning academic programming, college visits and workshops; and -Preparing for a full schedule of services during the 2026-27 academic year.
