Wilmington Historical Soc. presents free program on history of ADK camps

WILMINGTON | The Wilmington Historical Society invites the community to their free program entitled "Greetings from the Great Camps - History of the Adirondack Vacation" with historian Connor Williams to be held on Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m. in the Logger Room at the Hungry Trout Restaurant, 5239 NYS Route 86 in Wilmington. Step back in time to an era of lavish retreats and untamed wilderness to discover the Great Camps of the Adirondacks. As an exploration of the Adirondack vacation, discover the forces and people that created the unique nexus of wilderness, exertion, and rejuvenation that defines the region today. The program is free and open to the public. Teacher, author and historian Connor Williams said, "I share the stories of our past to help shape the societies of our future." As Great Camp Sagamore's current historian, he stewards its legacy. Prior to earning his PhD at Yale, Williams earned an M.A. at Dartmouth College. In 2021 and 2022, he was the Lead Historian for the United States Congress Naming Commission. The "Greetings from the Great Camps-History of the Adirondack Vacation" program is made possible, in part, by the Essex County Arts Council's Cultural Assistance Program Grant with funding provided by Essex County.
