Assemblyman Cashman observes Canada Day with cross-border friends

PLATTSBURGH | Canadians unified today, July 1, for the 159th anniversary of Canada Day, their national holiday celebrating unification. Joining them was Assemblyman Michael Cashman, a staunch supporter of Canada-U.S. relations and Chair of the New York-Canada Relations Task Force in the State Assembly. In a statement, Cashman said, "Our two countries don't just share a backyard; we have shared history and familial ties. Many of our own North Country residents have lived in, travelled to, shopped in, and enjoyed all that Canada has to offer. Our friends and family live just a short drive up the Northway. North Country businesses and recreational sites thrive when our Canadian friends come down to visit. The North Country knows firsthand the impact and importance of keeping positive relations with our neighbors, just as many Canadians know the great offerings the North Country has to share." "I am proud to serve as the Chair of the New York-Canada Relations Task Force in the State Assembly and remain engaged with Canadian officials, including my friend Consul General Tom Clark, to continue to explore ways we can continue this remarkable relationship and maintain our strong cross-border ties. Building and preserving strong interpersonal relationships with our Canadian neighbors relies on the people, and I encourage all North Country residents to recognize the historic partnership we have had with Canada since their inception over 100 years ago."
