Warren County to host July 4th reading of Declaration of Independence

QUEENSBURY | Start your America's 250th birthday celebration the morning of July 4th with a reading of the Declaration of Independence by Revolutionary War hero Joseph Warren at Warren County Municipal Center. Warren County will host a short ceremony the morning of Independence Day, during which Joseph Warren, played by Queensbury Supervisor John Strough in 18th-century attire, will deliver a rendition of the document that played an integral part in the quest for a free nation. Members of the public are welcome to this event, which is to be held on the front steps of Warren County Municipal Center. It is being jointly organized by county leaders and Warren County Historical Society and will include remarks by local dignitaries. The event is expected to last about 30 minutes. Warren County was named for Joseph Warren, who was a major general in the colony's militia shortly before the June 17, 1775, Battle of Bunker Hill, where he was killed in combat. Kevin Geraghty, Chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, said, "Join us to start your July 4th with an observance that celebrates the document that proclaimed our freedom, as we commemorate the 250th birthday of our great nation. The Declaration of Independence is the birth certificate of our nation, and established the United States as a free nation. We will be honored if you will celebrate it with us on this momentous day."
