Stefanik delivers $4M for the North Country

SCHUYLERVILLE | Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has delivered approximately $4 million in Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) funding for New York's 21st Congressional District through NBRC's Catalyst and Timber for Transit Programs. Stefanik has long championed this important program and has successfully delivered tens of millions of dollars just through Northern Border Regional Commission funds throughout her time in Congress."I am proud to once again deliver millions of dollars to New York's 21st District. The Northern Border Regional Commission, which I have consistently helped reauthorize and fund during my tenure in Congress, supports vital projects that foster economic growth and innovation benefitting the hardworking families of NY-21," stated Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. "I congratulate our successful applicants on these grants for important programs ranging from supporting our small businesses, to expanding childcare access, to training our workforce, and rebuilding our local economies." Grant awardees include: The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST), the Capital District Regional Planning Commission, Lewis County, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County, Village of Saranac Lake, WSHWE BOCES, Town of Long Lake, Herkimer County IDA, and TDC NNY, Inc. ROOST Funding will help launch a regional digital marketplace that expands year‑round revenue for Adirondack artisans and small creative businesses in Essex, Hamilton, and southern Franklin Counties. Grant Amount: $120,000 Capital District Regional Planning Commission Funding will be used to inventory timber‑feasible short‑span bridges, complete concept‑level engineering for 15–20 priority structures, produce two grant‑ready demonstration packages, and deliver a guidebook and outreach to municipal owners. Grant Amount: $90,000 Lewis County Funding will be used to design and permit the Moose River Road Extension Bridge Replacement in Lyonsdale, New York. Grant Amount: $476,287 Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County Funds will support the Adirondack Cuisine Trails through platform migration and a promotional campaign. Grant Amount: $499,918.74 Village of Saranac Lake Funds will upgrade Mt. Pisgah Recreation Area infrastructure, supporting year‑round recreation. Grant Amount: $249,411.50 WSWHE BOCES The funding will allow BOCES to integrate advanced simulators, virtual and augmented reality training, and AI‑enabled tools into K‑12 Career & Technical Education and Employment Training for Adults programs at a new regional CTE campus in Wilton. Grant Amount: $292,808.00 Town of Long Lake The funds will be used for a feasibility and conceptual design study evaluating whether to rebuild the storm‑damaged Jennings Pond dam or develop nature‑based recreation, enhancing Main Street vitality, expanding recreation, and strengthening the visitor economy. Grant Amount: $125,000 Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency This project will expand infrastructure at the Schuyler Business Park, supporting current tenants and allow for expansion of manufacturing. Grant Amount: $1,000,000 TDC NNY, Inc. The funds will be used to construct a 10,000‑square‑foot New York State‑licensed childcare facility in Plattsburgh that creates 150+ slots, enabling working caregivers to participate in the regional economy. Our partnership with the Capital Region Transportation Council and NYS DOT Region 1 - whose funding match makes this effort possible - ensures that the projects we identify are ready to compete for state and federal implementation funding. At the same time, this work goes beyond infrastructure. By advancing the use of mass timber and other advanced wood products, we are helping to create demand that can grow New York's forest products sector, spur new manufacturing and supply chain activity, and open the door to new business opportunities across the region's rural economy." "Lewis County is thrilled to have been awarded funding to design a permanent bridge replacement at the Moose River Road Extension, that highlights our Adirondack roots, aligns with our tourism and recreational goals, and celebrates the timber industry of Lewis County and the surrounding area. Thank you to the Northern Border Regional Commission Timber for Transit team for this opportunity to celebrate our community's unique rural character and design a bridge that will serve the community for years to come and serve as a model for other timber construction bridges across the region," said Larry Dolhof, Chairman of the Lewis County Board of Legislators.
