Food Truck Fridays on the Pond returns

BRANT LAKE | Food Truck Fridays on the Pond will return this summer, offering residents and visitors a fun, relaxing family event. Beginning Friday, July 3 and running weekly through Friday, Aug. 28 (a night that will culminate in a fireworks display), the event aims to provide people with an enriching, wholesome signature activity to look forward to over the span of the warm months. "Growing up, our town was a lot more active and we wanted to bring that excitement back, especially for our local families," noted Teri Schuerlein, Food Truck Fridays on the Pond Committee member. "We started in 2019 after a number of Horicon Business owners got together at EZ Marine and Storage." To fully realize the concept, a committee was specifically formed. Krista and Matt Wood, Sylvia Smith (former Horicon Supervisor), Margaret Holmes, and two of the original food truck owners Kelly Marcantonio and Justin Le'Beaulieur, and Schuerlein hopped aboard. "We depend greatly on volunteers to make it successful," Schuerlein noted. "We are very fortunate to have the support of our Horicon Town Board. We have even managed to get our Supervisors involved, former Supervisor Mike Geraci and current Supervisor Wayne Butler." According to Schuerlein, Food Truck Fridays average 1,500 guests per week. "It is so wonderful to see new faces and repeat patrons weekly," she said, speaking from experience as she as Schuerlein is stationed at the front entrance directing traffic and greeting people each week."I hear constantly how much they look forward to Friday nights." The event runs 10-11 dinner trucks and four dessert trucks, offering an array of cuisine and something for every appetite. The Town's library is open during the event, along with the Town's Historian Colleen Murtaugh making herself available at The Heinzelman to happily answer any questions. "We also have representation from our local Horicon Historical Museum and Brant Lake Association," Schuerlein added. "They are usually stationed by the library entrance." Food Truck Fridays also feature corn hole games for both adults and children, and has a weekly children's activity, like Mike the "Balloon Man" who created over a hundred balloon free of charge, a magician, and even a hula-hoop performer. "What is unique about our event is EZ Marine (Bernie Hill, owner) donates his time and a pontoon boat," Schuerlein shared. "He generously takes people for rides around the Mill Pond. We also have a main stage for local bands, as well as a musician up front by the food trucks." The large bandstand backs to the enormous tents where picnic tables are set up for families. People are also encouraged to bring chairs to sit and enjoy the music. In Schuerlein's opinion, it is the attention to detail that sets Food Truck Fridays apart. "None of this would be possible without Krista Wood," she commended. "She spends countless hours throughout the year planning, calling food truck vendors, music, preparing contracts, etc. She is our "unsung hero". It also goes without saying that our Committee members are unbelievable. Without everyone's efforts, this would never happen."
