Parks Come Alive! series kicks off June 11

PLATTSBURGH | The Parks Come Alive! series is set to kick off for the summer season on Thursday, June 11, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Peter Blumette Park. The City of Plattsburgh introduced Parks Come Alive! in 2022, a series of events that feature Plattsburgh's local city parks and highlight local food, drink, music and community organizations. Since its inaugural year, the event has brought together thousands of City neighbors into the local parks. Peter Blumette Park has a brand new playground for attendees to enjoy, installed as part of the City's ongoing investment in its parks system. On June 11 attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a free Basic Bike Repair and Maintenance class hosted by the Child Care Coordinating Council of the North Country and led by instructor Hadley Markoski. Community members are encouraged to bring their bicycles and learn practical skills for basic tune-ups and repairs using tools available on-site. The class aims to help riders feel more confident maintaining their bikes, encourage more people to choose biking as a form of transportation and recreation, and foster greater interest in the local cycling community. The city is also now partnering with Champlain Valley Family Center (CVFC), who will be providing $5 food vouchers for attendees. Stop by their table located next to the City of Plattsburgh's to get a food voucher at each event while supplies last. This year's lineup includes: Thursday, June 11, at Peter Blumette Park, featuring music by The Lowmen Thursday, Aug. 13, at Melissa Penfield Park, featuring music by Ursa & The Major Key Thursday, Sept. 17, at South Acres Park, featuring music by Quasimojo All events run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will feature: A beer garden hosted by Old Soul Design Shop Local food trucks and a limited number of $5 food vouchers (courtesy of Champlain Valley Family Center) available on-site Face painting by Jodi Brunner Caricatures by Joe Ferris A photo booth from The Luxury Photobooth Experience A solar telescope with sunspot viewing by Ephemer ADK 30+ community groups tabling with giveaways and activities Basic Bike Repair and Maintenance demo (June 11) A rain date will be scheduled for the following Thursday after each event. Event organizers will announce an official rescheduling of the event approximately 24 hours in advance if heavy rain or severe thunderstorms are forecasted.
