Lakers' baseball season concludes

LAKE GEORGE | The 2026 season for the Lake George baseball team ended May 22 as they lost a Section II Class C quarterfinal playoff game to Greenwich 16-0. On May 30, coach Chad Holderman offered his thoughts about the game, the team's season, and his team's future. "Greenwich hit the ball really well, and we could have done better defensively," he said. "They caught us on a bad day." Greenwich scored six hits in the first two innings and scored nine more in the following two, after giving the Lakers their last shot at scoring in the top of the fifth. Over the game's four and a half innings, Greenwich's Wyatt Skiff allowed no hits. On offense, Skiff's teammate Owen Brockway led his team two doubles, a single and five RBIs. Lake George senior Brayden Collier-Fisher was on the mound for three innings, during which he struck out three batters and walked four, while allowing eight hits and nine runs. Collier-Fisher threw 76 pitches, 43 if them in the strike zone. For the final two innings, he was relieved by Aidan Cardinale, who walked three, struck out none, while allowing one hit and six runs. Cardinale threw 42 pitches, 22 of them strikes. Coach Holderman said he was proud of his 2026 team. "We had a hugely successful season," he said, noting that the Lakers started out their league schedule with back-to-back walk-off wins against 2025 state runner-up North Warren on April 15 and Fort Ann two days later. The next week, the Lakers defeated Hadley-Luzerne, state-ranked No. 6 in mid-season and one of the Adirondack League's leading teams. Following this feat, the Lakers won four consecutive victories over league rivals. While some area teams are losing only a few seniors from their lineup for 2027, the Lakers are graduating eight seniors in June. These athletes are Erik LaFond, Cooper Smith, Ryan Baldwin, Keygean Mitchell, Patrick Kenny, Cody LeBarron, and team captains Brayden Collier-Fisher and Wyatt Meyer. The latter three were standouts on offense, and Meyer is a team MVP. "Brayden, Wyatt, and Cody were great leaders on the team," Holderman said, adding that the other seniors also provided key contributions to the team's success. "All our seniors will be missed 100 percent," he said, noting that in 2025, seven seniors graduated, so the Lakers baseball program is accustomed to realigning. "Next year we'll have a young team, but we have a lot of talented young baseball players coming up from junior varsity," he said. "I'm excited for the future."
