DFCU accepting applications for NextGen Ambassadors Council

DANNEMORA | Dannemora Federal Credit Union (DFCU) has opened applications for the next session of its highly successful NextGen Ambassadors Council (NGAC), a leadership and financial education program designed specifically for high school juniors throughout the North Country. The NGAC was launched to help students develop real-world skills beyond the classroom. The NGAC program provides participants with hands-on learning experiences focused on financial literacy, career exploration, networking, leadership development, and community involvement. Throughout the program, students engage with local business leaders, community organizations, entrepreneurs, political figures and industry professionals while exploring topics that prepare them for life after graduation. "One of the most rewarding parts of the NextGen Ambassadors Council is watching students discover their potential and gain confidence in their future," said Anna Hewitt-Channell, Business Development & Marketing Manager at Dannemora Federal Credit Union. "Our goal is to provide opportunities that help students build practical life skills, connect with community leaders, and understand the important role they can play in shaping the future of the North Country." The NextGen Ambassadors Council is a two-year leadership and professional development program designed to help students build confidence, expand their networks, and gain valuable real-world experience. Participants attend four sessions each school year at DFCU's Operations Center, located at 342 Tom Miller Road in Plattsburgh, NY. Past NGACsessions have featured guest speakers from organizations such as the North Country Chamber of Commerce, local government agencies, educational institutions, and small businesses. Students have participated in networking exercises, financial literacy workshops, career discussions, team-building activities, and real-world problem-solving scenarios. The program reflects DFCU's longstanding commitment to financial education and community investment. By bringing together students from across the region, the NGAC creates meaningful opportunities for young leaders to collaborate, learn, and grow while building connections that can benefit them throughout their academic and professional careers. "When we first launched the NextGen Ambassadors Council, we envisioned a program that would help students build confidence, connections, and skills they could use throughout their lives," said Anna Hewitt-Channell, Business Development & Marketing Manager at Dannemora Federal Credit Union. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a formal letter of recommendation from DFCU's Senior Management Team. This recognition highlights the student's dedication to leadership, professional development, community engagement, and financial education, providing a valuable addition to college, scholarship, and career applications. Applications are currently being accepted for the upcoming NGAC class. The deadline for students to apply is Aug. 19. Eligible applicants must be current high school juniors attending school within the North Country region. Applicants do not have to be current members at DFCU; this is a program for all juniors in high school. Interested students are encouraged to apply early, as space in the program is limited.
