New restaurant opens on Main Street in Chestertown

CHESTERTOWN | Married couple Brent and Jennifer Bliss have taken a leap of faith in a new business venture, and Main Street in Chestertown is the beneficiary of their fearlessness. Their new restaurant, "Remington on Main" has opened its doors, and the trifecta of scrumptious cuisine, unique cocktails, and warm hospitality awaits patrons. "We want to deliver extraordinary service and want to put out good food," said Brent. "People have been raving about our food so far and are excited to have us here. That is as simple as it is to me, to give great service and to feature outstanding food." Comfortably situated in a building from the 1890s, the architecture boasts history and character. With a seating capacity of 80, the restaurant blends rustic Adirondack touches with a contemporary vibe, making it an ideal venue for a casual evening out and an establishment worthy of celebrating a special occasion. "The building was renovated about 13 years ago; the previous owner did a lot of great work on it," said Bliss. "The restaurant work was more cosmetic and equipment; we didn't need to make any structural changes." Bliss has been immersed in the hospitality industry for over 30 years, and will be The Remington on Main's front-of-house manager and permanent fixture. Having spent the past 11 years at the Sagamore and the previous nine as its Food and Beverage Director, he brings knowledge and expertise to his own establishment, which has been a dream and desire many years in the making. Jennifer, who holds a degree in Hospitality from SUNY Plattsburgh also spent nearly a decade in the business, and is the co-owner of Brant Lake's Hilton Family Farmstand. At Remington on Main, she will be functioning behind the scenes and also a friendly face to welcome patrons. Chef Robert Riddle will be working his magic in the kitchen. Many may already be familiar with his culinary talents thanks to his prior work at The Huddle in Bolton Landing and the old Firehouse Restaurant in Hague. "Bobby is my cousin," Jennifer revealed. "We have talked for years about having something together. I am excited for him to have freedom in the kitchen for him to do what he does so well." Touted as classic American fare, the restaurant's menu features an assortment of seafood, salad, pasta, beef, soup, and sandwiches, but Brent said Riddle's daily features will also get outside of the American fare box and reflect a more diverse offering. "We want to bring different items to the area," Jennifer added. "We lived in Arizona for awhile, and Bobby has traveled all over the country, and eventually menu items will reflect that." Since the restaurant opened its door at the end of May, their signature crab cake has proven very popular, as has the BBQ ginger salmon. The chicken wings (dubbed "Forty's" after the couple's 11-year-old son Erik, who eats wings wherever he goes, and his hockey number '40') have been the number one seller. "The menu will continue to evolve with more items being continuously added as the weeks go on," promised Brent. The bar also features a curated selection of wines, local craft beers, and signature cocktails, so those who enjoy an old favorite or like to try a new beverage from time to time will feel comfortable and satisfied. "We are so happy to bring something good to the community and be able to give back," Jennifer expressed. " We have been so honored- people kept asking when we were open and we were able to be open 10 days without even posting that we were open and be full almost every night." The Remington on Main is located at 6369 Main Street in Chestertown.
