Queensbury resident Kimberly Richards appointed as Warren County Attorney

QUEENSBURY | The Warren County Board of Supervisors has appointed Queensbury resident Kimberly E. Richards to serve as Warren County Attorney. Richards comes to the employ of Warren County from the Executive Office of the President of the United States, where she has served in the Office of National Drug Control Policy for the past year. Richards replaces Larry Elmen, who left the County Attorney Position when appointed Glens Falls City Judge in March. Richards is a native of Novi, Michigan, and a graduate of Michigan State University and Cooley Law School. Prior to her current role as Deputy General Counsel within the Office of National Drug Control Policy, she served as a Senior Associate General Counsel with the Office of Administration, Executive Office of the President. During her career as a federal attorney, Richards served as counsel to four presidential administrations. She brings to Warren County more than a decade of experience in government ethics, personnel, claims and policy. Prior to federal service, she was a litigator in the private sector. Richards said, "Warren County has a strong tradition of public service and effective local government, and I am honored by the opportunity to serve the county and its residents as County Attorney. I look forward to bringing my experience in government administrative law, ethics, and advising public executives to support the Board of Supervisors, county leadership, and the dedicated public servants who work on behalf of the people of Warren County." Richards resides with her family in Queensbury, where her children attend Glens Falls schools. The County Attorney supervises the legal office that provides legal advice to county officials and employees, and represents Warren County in all civil lawsuits and administrative hearings. A search committee selected Richards from a pool of four attorneys who were selected for interviews. Warren County Administrator John Taflan said, "We are extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Kimberly Richards as Warren County Attorney following a highly competitive search process that included an exceptionally qualified field of candidates. Ms. Richards distinguished herself through her depth of legal experience, proven leadership in complex governmental environments, and her thoughtful, collaborative approach to public service." Warren County Board of Supervisors Chairman Kevin Geraghty said, "Kimberly Richards brings an impressive combination of executive-level legal counsel, management experience, ethics and compliance expertise, and practical problem-solving skills developed at the highest levels of federal government. We are confident that she will be a tremendous asset to the Board of Supervisors, county departments, and the residents of Warren County as we continue to strengthen county government operations and accountability." Richards will begin her position with Warren County on June 1.
