Otis D. Jones

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA. | Otis D. Jones, 87, of Flowery Branch, Ga., passed away peacefully on Jan. 28, 2026, in Braselton, Ga., surrounded by his family. On Sept. 8, 1938, Otis was born to Norton and Mary Jones in Reber, N.Y. He attended Willsboro Central School and then completed the machinist apprentice program at General Electric (GE) in Schenectady, N.Y. He worked as a machinist and tool dye maker at Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, Conn., and then IBM in East Fishkill and Poughkeepsie, N.Y., from where he retired after 30 years. He was the beloved husband of Joan, whom he married on Sept. 14, 1958, in Whallonsburg, N.Y., and they have been married for 67+ years. Otis was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He received the greatest honor of being the best father and grandpa. He enjoyed woodworking and being a volunteer fireman, EMT and commissioner of the Lagrange Fire Department in LaGrangeville, N.Y. He loved his New York Yankees and hunting with his son, Tony, and brother-in-law, Russell. Those left to cherish memories of Otis are his beloved spouse, Joan; his children: Anthony Jones (Theresia) of Princeton, N.C.; Penny Ormiston (Michael) of Jefferson, N.Y.; and Teresa Hyatt (Chad) of Buford, Ga.; his grandchildren: Krystin Carter (Edward), Trever Lowe (Glaciann), Dylon Jones (Katherine), Hunter Hyatt (Brooke), Justin Jones (Hannah), Hannah-Jo Hyatt, Heidi Hyatt (Brandon), Hudson Hyatt; and his great-grandchildren: Bryce, Jordyn, Layla, Kayden and Karson. He will also be missed by his sisters: Arlene Mason and Ramona Anderson; sisters-in-law: Eunice Jones, Joyce Bridge, Ethel Hathaway, Mary Ann Crowningshield, Betty Phillips; brothers-in-law: Billy Palmer and Ron Tyrell; and so many nieces and nephews. Otis is proceeded in death by his father and mother, Norton and Mary Jones; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Viola Palmer; brother, Earl Jones; brothers-in-law, James Mason, Thurman Anderson, Orrin Palmer, Robert Bridge, Marshall Hathaway, David Palmer, Russell Crowningshield, James Palmer, Thomas Palmer and Jim Phillips; sisters-in-law: Edith Tyrrell, Thelma Palmer, and Nina Palmer. Dad was always hard-working and dedicated and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His family was his pride and joy and his greatest role in life was being a husband, father and grandfather. "Dad, we will miss you, immensely. You were our 'go-to' when life got rough; you were our sanity in this crazy world, and our comfort when we needed clarity. You were always someone we could count on, and although you were a straight shooter, you always got your point across without judgement and always provided us sound advice. You always made sure we made our decisions after thinking things through. Because of you, we have the hearts of a lion, the love of our family and an insane work ethic." The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the 4th floor staff at NE Georgia Medical Center in Braselton, Ga., for the care they showed to our dad. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the LaGrange Fire District, 504 Freedom Plains Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603, or Hall County Fire Station, 6175 Gaines Ferry Rd., Flowery Branch, GA 30542, or Reber Fire Station, 21 Sunset Dr., Willsboro, NY 12996. A viewing was held on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026 from 1 to 3 p.m. with a funeral service at 3 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home, 4400 South Lee St., Buford, GA 30518. Graveside services will be held May 23, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Cemetery of Willsboro, Essex Road, Willsboro, NY 12996 (aka New York State Route 22 - three miles outside of the Town of Willsboro). There will be a gathering/luncheon of family and friends immediately following the services at the Reber Methodist Church, 214 Reber Rd., Willsboro, NY 12996. Our lives go on without you but nothing is the same we have to hide our heartache when someone speaks your name sad are the hearts that love you silent are the tears that fall living without you is the hardest part of all You did so many things for us Your heart was so kind and true And when we needed someone We could always count on you The special years will not return When we are all together But with the love in our hearts You walk with us forever
