Plattsburgh man accused of possessing child sexual abuse material

PLATTSBURGH | A Plattsburgh man has been arrested accused of possessing child sexual abuse material and authorities are asking anyone with pertinent information in the case to come forward. The New York State Police Troop B Computer Crime Unit and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrested George B. Shimell, 29, in connection with an ongoing investigation relating to CSAM. Shimell was arrested in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252A (a)(5)(B) – Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material and was remanded to Clinton County Jail to be arraigned in the Northern District Court of New York. Also assisting on the investigation were the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT), United States Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Branch, Clinton County Sheriff's Department, and the Plattsburgh City Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted jointly by the New York State Police and Homeland Security Investigations. Anyone with pertinent information regarding this investigation or who may be a victim of sexual abuse, is encouraged to contact the New York State Police at 518-873-2750. The New York State Police, Homeland Security Investigations, the Clinton County District Attorney's Office, and the United States Attorney's Office are committed to protecting the community and holding offenders accountable. Authorities said individuals found promoting, distributing, or possessing child sexual abuse material will be arrested and prosecuted.
