Used bookstore to open in Keeseville

KEESEVILLE | The Friends of the Keeseville Free Library will be hosting a grand opening of its new used bookstore on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Located inside the Keeseville Methodist Church Hall, the yellow building across the street from the church itself, book lovers will be able to peruse a wide variety of gently used books from adult to children's, all separated into different sections, from fiction and non-fiction works to romance and history novels to handbooks on cooking and crafting. Shoppers will be able to fill a bag with books for a donation towards the Keeseville Free Library, with a suggested donation of at least $10 per bag. There will also be a bake sale. Following the grand opening, the Friends of the Keeseville Free Library plans to open the shop every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at least one Saturday a month, coordinating with the local thrift shop's hours to attract traffic to both places. When open, a sign — made by Loreman's Embroidery, Engraving, and Screen Printing — will be placed outside on the sidewalk. All proceeds from the used bookstore will go directly to the Keeseville Free Library, which is where all the books in the shop originally came from. In fact, this whole endeavor was a way for the non-profit group to give back to the library and help support all it does for the local community. "[Library Director] Robyn Pray is just so overextended everywhere, putting so much time into the library herself to make it another community gathering space for all," said Friends of the Keeseville Free Library member Dawn Bujold. "She also had books that she needed to find new homes for, so we thought that the bookstore could be something we could do to help her while also raising funds for the library." For instance, this month the Keeseville Free Library has many offerings for the local community, including trivia, workshops, game nights, and more. On May 23 at 11 a.m., there will be a book talk with Nancy Rumney, and on May 30 at noon, Jessie Furnia will teach guests how to create art using Kinusaiga, a traditional form of Japanese patchwork that uses leftover fabric scraps. Each month, the Keeseville Free Library also hosts an Artisan of the Month. This month, handmade soaps and bath bombs made by Christina Dominy of Sunshine Soaps will be showcased. This bookstore is just another extension of what the Keeseville Free Library offers community members of all ages. "I just want to give a big shout out to our Friends [of the Keeseville Free Library] for all that they continue to do for the library," Pray said in the May newsletter. "I am so grateful to each one of you for sharing your time, talents, and skills to fulfill all the library's needs."
