Memorial Day Parade returns to Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH | The City and Town of Plattsburgh have announced a return of the collaborative Memorial Day Parade, taking place on Monday, May 25 to bring the community together in remembrance and appreciation of our local veterans and their families. The parade will begin at 12 p.m. at West Side Ballroom, proceeding right onto New York Road, entering the traffic circle, and continuing straight on New York Road before concluding at the U.S. Oval in the City of Plattsburgh. Following the parade, attendees are invited to gather at the U.S. Oval for a special ceremony in partnership with the Disabled American Veterans Association (DAV), performances, food trucks, and a soccer tournament. Plattsburgh High School's A capella group, Encore, will be performing during the ceremony. Adding to the day's activities, North Country Athletics is partnering with the City of Plattsburgh to host the Memorial Day 3v3 Soccer Salute at the U.S. Oval. This World Cup-style tournament will feature youth teams in U10 and U12 boys and girls divisions, with morning and afternoon sessions. Each team is guaranteed multiple games, with group play leading into a knockout round. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit North Country Honor Flight, supporting local veterans. Memorial Day is a solemn occasion to reflect on the bravery, sacrifice, and service of those who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms. This joint event between the City and Town serves as a unified show of respect and gratitude to all who have served and sacrificed. "As we gather for this year's Memorial Day Parade, we pause to reflect on the profound sacrifices made by our service members and the families who have carried those burdens alongside them. Their courage is not just remembered—it lives on in our community. I am deeply honored to stand with our local veterans, whose strength, unity, and unwavering sense of service continue to inspire us and define who we are." Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Chuck Kostyk said, "The Town of Plattsburgh is thrilled to again partner with the City of Plattsburgh to host a Plattsburgh Community Memorial Day Parade. Building off the success of last year's inaugural parade, we look forward to an even bigger and better event in 2026. In an area that is as rich in military history as ours is, it is important to take the time to recognize those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. We feel this parade, which concludes with the Disabled American Veterans ceremony at the Old Base Oval, does much to honor those that "gave all" in the defense of our country." To maintain the focus on honoring veterans, political groups will not be permitted to participate in the parade. This is to ensure the event remains a respectful tribute. Non-profit organizations, schools, community groups, and businesses are encouraged to register and show their support.
