Lake George girls win two more games

LAKE GEORGE | Nearing the end of their regular season, the Lake George softball team won two of their three games last week. The Lakers defeated Warrensburg and Northville, but lost to Argyle. As of May 3, Lake George's win-loss record was 6-3 for the season. LAKERS 11, BURGHERS 3 Lake George freshman Lizzie Spath had four hits — including a triple in the first inning — as well as two RBIs and two runs in her five at-bats May 1, as the Lake George softball team defeated Warrensburg 11-3. Both the Lakers and the Burghers were productive in the first inning, which ended 4-3, Lakers in the lead; but Lake George continued to score intermittently over the next six innings to secure a win. For Lake George, sophomore McKenna Bennett tallied two hits, two RBIs and one run over her three trips to the plate. Classmate Aubrey Richards had one hit and scored two runs, while freshman Olivia Duers contributed a hit and an RBI. For Warrensburg, seniors Caitlin O'Donnell and Emma Brennan each tallied two hits, and sophomore Celia O'Donnell contributed both a triple and an RBI. Lake George's pitcher Olivia Tyrer, a junior, struck out six batters and walked one over seven innings while allowing nine hits. Eighth-grader Kiera Hopkins started on the mound for Warrensburg, striking out four batters but allowing nine runs on seven hits over five innings. The game ended in a dramatic fashion, as Warrensburg sophomore Ella LaPoint hit a grounder but Lake George's third-base player caught it and forced out runner eighth-grader Savannah Duell, then threw to first base for a double play. ARGYLE 14, LAKE GEORGE 0 McKenna Bennett provided Lake George's sole hit in an April 29 game they lost to Argyle 14-0. Freshman pitcher Addison Merrigan took the loss for the Lakers, striking out three batters but giving up eight hits over three innings. LAKE GEORGE 12, NORTHVILLE 5 Junior Mollie Johnson tallied three hits accompanied by two RBIs in five at-bats to lead Lake George April 27 as they defeated Northville 12-5. Olivia Tyrer followed with two hits and a run, and Addison Merrigan contributed one hit, an RBI, and two runs. Both McKenna Bennett and Aubrey Richards singled, each scoring a run. Pitcher Olivia Tyrer earned the win for Lake George, striking out nine batters and walking none over four innings, while giving up four hits and two runs. Merrigan relieved Tyrer for the remaining three innings. Next up for the Lakers is a home game at 5 p.m. Monday, May 4 against Salem, then an away game Wednesday, May 6 versus Granville, followed by two home games: the first on Friday, May 8 May against Corinth, and the second on Monday, May 11 versus Cambridge. The latter three games start at 4:30 p.m.
