Au Sable River Valley Business Assoc. opens business/visitor center May 21

AU SABLE FORKS | The Au Sable River Valley Business Association will open a visitor information and business center in the hamlet of Au Sable Forks with a ribbon-cutting event Thursday, May 21, at 5:30 p.m., on the ground floor of the Tahawus Cultural Center. The center will be staffed four days a week, and is designed to support local businesses and encourage travelers to the Adirondacks to stop in Au Sable Forks. A business/visitor center was identified as a priority by ARVBA's strategic planning process. The center will be funded by ARVBA, along with support from the Town of Jay's occupancy-tax fund and the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST). "From my perspective, the visitors center will liven up Main Street by bringing a vacant store front to life, where we can help promote our region and area activities, along with our businesses," said ARVBA President Knut Sauer. The visitor center employee will also manage ARVBA's day-to-day operations, focusing on growing membership, managing events, and supporting the association's members. "The Au Sable Forks exit off the Northway is a major gateway into the park, but we haven't been capturing those travelers," said Town of Jay Supervisor Matt Stanley. "This visitor center will give motorists a reason to stop for information and also be a way to to become acquainted with the town's businesses, arts and recreational opportunities." "We are pleased to support the revitalization efforts in the Town of Jay and Hamlet of Au Sable Forks," stated ROOST President and CEO Dan Kelleher. "This project will introduce travellers coming from the north to all our region has to offer while enhancing the vitality of Main Street in the community." In the future, ARVBA plans to offer local artisans and farmers an opportunity to sell their products on a consignment basis in the center. ARVBA strives to bring local business owners together to help promote and support local businesses through information and networking opportunities.
