NW boys rebound from losses, beat N'ville 35-7

CHESTERTOWN | In an April 18 rematch with Northville, the North Warren Baseball team's offense was on fire, scoring 35 runs to the Falcons' seven, doubling the number of runs they tallied in an April 1 game. North Warren's blowout victory occurred one day after they lost to Hartford 17-3 and were defeated by Lake George on April 15. The Cougars' bats were hot from the beginning of the game versus Northville. North Warren players scored nine runs off six hits in the top of the first inning, scored 12 runs off six hits in the second inning, then scored 14 runs on eight hits in the third inning. Among the leaders on offense was Brodie Rooker, who scored four runs off his four singles. Hitting doubles, one each, were C.J. Barlow and Will Lindsley. Hitting two singles each were Owen Schaefer, Hudson Gadjo, and Nico Tucci. Hitting one single each were Barlow, Dan Mattison, Patrick Viele, Connor Clench and Liam Bedell. Schaefer tallied six RBIs, the most among his teammates. In total, the Cougars tallied 22 hits, four of them by Tucci. North Warren players totaled 15 walks, four of them earned by Viele. Lindsley, the Cougars' starting pitcher, earned the win, allowing five hits and two runs, one earned, over three innings, while striking out six batters and walking two. Tucci relieved Lindsley on the mound. Northville's Hunter Webber took the loss for Northville, pitching two-thirds of an inning, surrendering nine runs on seven hits, striking out one, and walking four. North Warren coach John Kelly said he was impressed with Northville's players, because despite the wide scoring gap that increased inning by inning, they kept battling with intensity. "Our team can learn a lot from Northville — they played hard the entire game; they never gave up." HARTFORD 17, COUGARS 3 Avenging a 2025 Section II playoff loss to North Warren, Hartford defeated the Cougars 17-3 on April 17. The Tanagers established a lead early, scoring five runs in the first inning off two hits, then adding three more runs in the second inning and one in the third. Hartford resumed their offensive onslaught in the fourth inning, scoring six runs on three hits. Hartford Central's pitcher Aiden Swezey earned the win, allowing two hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking four. North Warren's Brodie Rooker took the loss, pitching for two innings, allowing eight runs, one earned, on six hits, striking out four and walking one. Nico Tucci and Owen Schaefer each collected one hit for North Warren. Schaefer led the Cougars with two runs batted in. The Cougars executed a double play in the game. Hartford tallied 12 hits in the game. Gabe Durkee led the Tanagers with four RBIs. Coach Kelly said his gameplay decisions were a factor in the loss to Hartford. The Cougars' next games are scheduled for Monday, April 20 versus Whitehall, and Wednesday, April 22 versus Corinth. Both are away games, and they are followed by a home game with Argyle on Friday, April 24. All three begin at 4:30 p.m. April 19, coach Kelly said he remained positive about his team's prospects. "We will regroup," he said. "We just have to refocus." NORTH WARREN 6, SALEM-CAMBRIDGE 5 On April 13, North Warren defeated Salem-Cambridge April 13 in a walk-off comeback victory. The Cougars were trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Will Lindsley hit a grand slam to center field, scoring four runs. North Warren scored first in the bottom of the second inning after Nico Tucci walked and Maceo Matson singled down the right field line, each scoring one run. Salem-Cambridge tied the game 2-2 in the third inning, then achieved a 3-2 lead in the fourth. In the top of the seventh inning, the S-C team advanced their score to 5-2 off a home run slugged by Stephen Yakubec. North Warren's relief pitcher, Owen Schaefer, was credited with the win. He allowed three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Schaefer was preceded by Matson, who gave up two hits and three runs, two earned, over four innings, striking out five batters. Salem-Cambridge's relief pitcher Cooper Petell took the loss, allowing four runs and two hits over two innings, striking out two batters. Sawyer Saddlemire was the starting pitcher for S-C. Matson, his team's leadoff batter, paced North Warren with two hits in four at-bats. Lindsley, the Cougars catcher, led his team with four runs batted in. The Cougars tallied 10 walks for the game. Tucci, Lindsley, Patrick Viele, and Daniel Mattison led the team with two walks apiece. North Warren executed one double play. Saddlemire and Yakubec drove in two runs each for Salem-Cambridge. Stephen Yakubec's brother Luke led Salem with two hits in three at-bats.
