Assemblyman Cashman hosts childcare roundtable with local agencies

PLATTSBURGH | Assemblyman Michael S. Cashman (D-Plattsburgh) held a roundtable Wednesday evening with childcare agencies and advocates from throughout the North Country. The event was held at TDC in Plattsburgh. "I was honored to bring together such an incredible group from every corner of the district," Assemblyman Cashman said. "These folks show up every day to ensure families can continue to work, go to appointments, and run errands. Many parents are leaving the workforce to provide for their children full-time because of lack of accessible childcare, and these agencies are stepping up to fill that gap to the best of their ability. My office will continue to partner with these agencies and others to continue to expand and protect childcare offerings throughout the North Country." Multiple organizations were invited to the roundtable to share their experiences. Participants were Keeseville Kids' Cove, Lil' Tykes, SUNY Plattsburgh Childcare Center, Adirondack Community Foundation Birth to Three Alliance, Childcare Coordinating Council of the North Country, and Commissioner Crowningshield of the Clinton County Department of Social Services. "Child care is vital community infrastructure that underpins the workforce and economy of the North Country," Kate Ryan, Adirondack Birth to Three Alliance Director at Adirondack Community Foundation, said. "We thank Assemblymember Cashman for hosting this roundtable and look forward to partnering with him, alongside a cross-sector collaboration of business, economic leaders, child care partners, on our upcoming efforts to develop regional strategies that address our unique rural needs." "Finding funding opportunities and combating staffing challenges remain critical issues for our region's providers," Cashman added. "Given the scale of our district, we face unique challenges that many of my Assembly colleagues don't see regularly, oftentimes resulting in higher need that is not provided for in the state budget. I will be amplifying this roundtable's discussions to my colleagues down in the Assembly as our budget negotiations continue." Assemblyman Cashman added that this is the first of multiple roundtable events he plans to host. Planning of roundtables regarding small business, veterans, and additional topics are underway.
