Leona M. Badke

TICONDEROGA | Leona M. Badke, of Ticonderoga, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Elderwood of Ticonderoga, surrounded by her four children. Born on Sept. 13, 1932, in Crown Point, N.Y., she was the daughter of Michael and Bertha (Baker) Alteri. Leona devoted her life to caring for her family, whom she loved dearly. Her kitchen was always open—day or night—and her cooking brought comfort and joy to all who gathered around her table. Her signature pasta dish became a beloved family favorite that many still try to recreate. Known affectionately by many names — "Doma," "Onyo," "Mom," "Gram," "Grandma," and simply "Ma" — Leona was the heart of her family. She cherished time spent with loved ones, especially when family came to visit and stay with her. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing bingo, listening to music, and dancing. During her time at Elderwood, she looked forward to the Friday musical performances with Dean the Music Guy, who was kind enough to give her a solo performance of her favorite song, "You Are My Sunshine," as she neared her final days. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Eugene and John Alteri; her sister, Alberta Sharkey; and her former husband, Charles J. Badke. Leona is survived by her four children: Linda (Mike) Connery of Ticonderoga; Charles (Mary) Badke of Ticonderoga; Charlene (Nick) Caiano of Essex Junction, Vt.; and Penny (Adam) Jones of Williston, Vt. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Tanya (Eddie) Dedrick, Heather (Brian) Aros, Travis (Amber) Ives, Joshua Ross, Jesse (Mary) Badke, Michaela Badke, Nico Caiano, Braedon Jones, and Peyton Jones; her great-grandchildren: Tyler (Alexis) Tucker, Axel (Kassie) Dedrick, Rylin (Lily) Ives, Lucas Aros, Boden Aros, Elijah Ives, Greyden Badke, and Aliona Badke; and her great-great-grandchildren: Rhettson Tucker and Asher Dedrick. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Manning and Antoinette Mott, whose recent reunion brought great joy. In addition, she leaves behind several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Leona's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga.
