Plattsburgh Public Library continues "Lifelong Learning for All" series

PLATTSBURGH | Plattsburgh Public Library continues its monthly speaker series, Lifelong Learning for All, held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the library auditorium on the second floor. The series brings local experts to the library to share their knowledge with the community. All are welcome. Each session includes a half-hour presentation followed by Q&A/discussion. On Wednesday, April 1, at 5:30 p.m., Regan Levitte of SUNY Plattsburgh will present "Reuse, Reclaim, Recycle: The History of Fan Fiction and Its Potential Futures." This talk explores the origins and evolution of fan fiction, tracing how fannish culture and creative reuse have influenced literature across time. Attendees will learn how fan fiction has shaped modern publishing trends, including the rise of books based on fan-created works, and consider where this dynamic and participatory form of storytelling may be headed in the future. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Regan Levitte is the Assistant Director and Writing Specialist at the Claude J. Clark Learning Center at SUNY Plattsburgh. She is a scholar-practitioner of writing center studies and outside-the-classroom writing experiences, and is particularly interested in how and why people seek out writing support. She holds an M.A. in English with a concentration in composition and rhetoric, along with a certificate in Women's and Gender Studies from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and is also an award-winning fan fiction writer.
