Memorial scholarship opens for Crown Point Central School seniors

CROWN POINT | In memory of Master Sergeant Jeremy R. Burris - a devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend - a scholarship fund has been established to support a graduating senior from Crown Point Central School each year, as funding allows. An Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialist who served honorably for 18 years, Burris exemplified courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to personal growth, education, and service to others. A native of Crown Point, Burris graduated from Crown Point Central School and demonstrated a strong work ethic from an early age, including working as a lifeguard in his community. He went on to pursue higher education in criminal justice while continuing to prioritize both academic and personal development. During his military career, Burris served in both Afghanistan and Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received numerous awards and commendations, including an Army Commendation Medal with Valor, two Bronze Star Medals, and a Meritorious Service Medal, among many others. He also earned multiple professional development distinctions, reflecting his dedication to lifelong learning and excellence. In addition to his military accomplishments, Burris was deeply committed to physical fitness and mentoring others. He was a 2021 regional winner of the U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Best Warrior Competition, a rigorous, multi-day event testing both physical and mental endurance. Above all, Burris was devoted to his family, especially his children, Jerico and Mila. Known for his warmth, humor, and ability to connect with others, he created lasting memories through simple joys - family movie nights, shared adventures, and time spent together. The Jeremy R. Burris Memorial Scholarship aims to support students who demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, personal growth, and service to others. The scholarship reflects Burris's belief in the importance of education, resilience, and helping others reach their full potential.
