Police search for vehicle in pedestrian hit-and-run

Read more about the arrest here. PLATTSBURGH | Authorities are searching for the driver who hit a woman in a motorized wheelchair Thursday evening. New York State Police said the accident happened around 5:40 p.m. on Ampersand Drive in Plattsburgh. A preliminary investigation determined that a dark colored SUV of unknown make and model—possibly a Jeep Patriot—was stopped near a crosswalk and not moving. The woman was traveling southbound on Ampersand Drive when the SUV began moving northbound and struck her. The vehicle failed to stop and continued northbound on Ampersand Drive. Concerned citizens immediately stopped to render aid. Local fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene, and the victim was transported to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital before being transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center. She is currently listed in stable but critical condition. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored SUV of unknown make and model, possibly a Jeep Patriot. It is believed the vehicle may have sustained front-end damage, specifically to the front passenger-side bumper, consistent with striking the victim's motorized wheelchair.
