Ti Alumni Men's Basketball Tourney returns this April

TICONDEROGA | The competitive streak, team spirit, and nostalgia will meld in equal parts at center court on Saturday, April 18 when the Ticonderoga Alumni Association's (TAA) Men's Basketball Tournament returns. "The tournament brings back past students and alumni from all over that are still enjoying playing basketball," said Karla Vigliotti, TAA President. "Old friends from high school meet up after years of not playing together, and we get a lot of spectators who enjoy watching the high school basketball; a lot love to come back and watch former players on the court again." Naturally, the tournament will take place in the Ticonderoga Junior-Senior High School gymnasium. Proceeds from the event will benefit TAA's 2030 Alumni Extravaganza, slated for July 25, 26, 27 of 2030. "It's so great to see alumni from all generations come together for this event and rally around supporting our Alumni Extravaganza," said TAA board member Kristin Frechette. All male Ti alumni of any age are welcome and invited to once again step out onto the court alongside their former classmates, whether they ever played basketball in high school or not. No preregistration is required; players need simply to show up the morning of the event with their sneakers and ready to give it all they've got. The "4-team double elimination" tournament will see teams compete in a bracket where a team is eliminated after losing two matches, with winners progressing to the next round. Teams will be assigned based on the years players graduated (this method increases the likelihood the athletes will play alongside their high school buddies), adding a special element to the event. Tip-off time at the tournament is at 10 a.m., but interested players are asked to arrive at the school by 9:30 a.m. The tournament will span until 2 p.m., and will feature an appearance from some of the littlest Sentinel when Peak Force Cheer returns to delight the crowds with their spirited cheer performances. "It went well last year, it was nice to see parents in the stands and the community getting involved with the cheerleaders. The kids seemed so proud and excited to be there." According to Vigliotti, 2025's tournament had 25 players. For this year, TAA would love to see 30 alums darting across the court. There is a suggested player donation of $20 for the tournament. Spectators are encouraged to donate $5. Current Ticonderoga students receive free admission. Players will receive a complimentary T-shirt. "We are using T-shirts from the 2020 tournament that never happened due to COVID," Vigliotti revealed. "These are sponsored by the former International Paper Co., Porter Land Surveying, and Dedrick's Tree Service." A concession stand will be on site the day of the tournament, and a 50/50 raffle will also be held. The tournament could also use a few good referees. All they need to bring from home is a whistle.
