Route 11 crash claims the life of Chateaugay woman

CHATEAUGAY | An early morning accident on Route 11 has claimed the life of a local woman and left a Malone man facing a vehicular homicide charge. New York State Police said the accident happened at about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday when Ryan E. Bordeau, 24, of Malone was traveling west on the state highway with passenger Jennifer S. Hathorn, 49. While traveling west, police said, Bordeau lost control of the vehicle, causing it to exit the roadway onto the north shoulder. Chateaugay Fire Department and Foothills EMS administered life-saving measures to Hathorn, but despite these efforts, Hathorn was pronounced deceased at the accident site. While interviewing Bordeau, troopers observed signs of impairment and issued standardized field sobriety tests, which he reportedly failed. A subsequent breath sample showed a BAC of .10 percent. Bordeau also provided a blood sample at Alice Hyde Medical Center before being charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned in the Town of Malone Court and released on his own recognizance Members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the crash.
