Indian Lake's SNOCADE winter celebration promises 10 days of entertainment

INDIAN LAKE | Indian Lake's spectacular 10-day winter celebration, SNOCADE, starts on Thursday, Feb. 12 and runs through Saturday, Feb. 21, with events and activities planned each day for every member of the family. Kicking the festival off on Thursday afternoon are two free concerts with Bob Stump, Roy Coates, Bob Asseni, and Doug Moody performing the "Evolution of American Music" at the Indian Lake Theater, with Indian Lake Central School joining the fun at 1:15 p.m. A live stream will be available for neighboring schools. There will be another performance at 7 p.m. for the general public. These performances are brought to the public with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts. Admission is free. Moving into the weekend, the Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department will be putting on their annual breakfast on Saturday, the 14th, and Sunday, the 15th from 7 to 11 a.m. They will be serving eggs, choice of meat, pancakes, home fries and more. The Friends of the Library will also have their annual Book & Bake Sale both days from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. The Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce has a whole day of fun planned for Saturday, starting off with a Basket Weaving Workshop at 10 a.m. with Colleen from Weave & Wobble. Spots are limited, so call 518-648-5112 to secure a spot. Also starting at 10 a.m., and going until 2:30 p.m., is the Chamber of Commerce Craft Fair at the Indian Lake Central School gymnasium. Also on Saturday, the Indian Lake Snowarriors will host a Meet and Greet from noon to 3 p.m. at Byron Park. Stop by and meet some of the guys who groom the snowmobile trails all winter. Moving into Sunday, the 15th, the Kitty Kat Races are back at the Indian Lake Little League Field. Races run from noon through 2 p.m. Racers must be registered by noon. Pre-registration is available at the Welcome Center or on the day of the races at the field from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The day wraps up with a local favorite, Family Feud, at the Indian Lake Theater. Start time is 7 p.m. and admission is free. Activities indoors and out continue starting Monday the 16th, with the Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department and NYSDEC Cold-Water Rescue Demonstration at 10 a.m. at the Water Department on Chain Lakes Road, where they will demonstrate how to rescue someone who has fallen through the ice. At 1 p.m., there is a free Wool and Water Workshop presentation with the Paul Smith's College Adirondack Watershed Institute at the Indian Lake Theater. Prior experience or materials are not needed. Ages 14 and up are recommended, but younger children can attend if accompanied by a guardian. Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., the Town of Indian Lake is sponsoring a free Paint, Pop & Popcorn Workshop with Briana Crossway. All snacks, drinks and supplies will be provided. There are only 20 spots available for ages 5 and up, so please call 518-648-5828 to secure a spot. Wednesday, Feb. 18, brings a free NYS Snowmobile Safety Course taught by state-certified instructors from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department at the Town Hall; pre-registration is required and can be done by visiting register-ed.com/programs/new_york/251-new-york-snowmobile-safety-course. On the 19th, the Utica Zoo's ZooMobile will visit the Indian Lake Skit Hut from 2 to 4 p.m. with lots of cool animals. Start with a lesson about their animals, then meet the animals. Following that, get ready for Saturday's race at the Cardboard Sled Building Workshop at the Indian Lake Ski Hut from 5 to 7 p.m. All supplies will be provided. Friday the 20th brings Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides with A Time to Remember Carriages and Sleigh Rides returning to Indian Lake. The rides will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting at Town Hall. The Indian Lake Snowarriors have their annual Baked Potato Dinner at the American Legion from 4 to 7 p.m. Following that is the Steet Meat Raffle - new this year - to benefit the Indian Lake Theater and Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Pre-sale tickets are now available for purchase. Saturday, Feb. 21, SNOCADE's last day, is given its well-deserved send-off, when at 3 p.m. the Cardboard Sled Races begin at the Indian Lake Ski Hut. Day-of-registration takes place 2:30 - 3 p.m. Racers must be registered by 3 p.m. SNOCADE's Grand Finale, 4 to 7 p.m., wraps everything up with fireworks at 6:30 p.m. accompanied by live music from Mitch Fraiser, a bonfire, ice skating, sledding, hot cocoa, crafts, hot dogs and more. The Indian Lake Library has numerous activities and workshops planned for the week, including their 7th annual "Light Up the Library Party" on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. To prepare for the party, an Ice Lantern Workshop will take place on Saturday, Feb. 14, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. On Friday the 20th, author Nanci Vineyard will be visiting the Library to discuss her latest book from 1 to 2 p.m. Other Library activities take place throughout the week, including Crafternoon Specials Tuesday through Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; a Kids Program on Tuesday and Thursday 10:30 - 11:15 a.m.; and Bonus Bookworm Buddies Story Time on Friday 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. In addition to all the events being held at the Indian Lake Theater, "The Running Man" is scheduled to play Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th at 7 p.m. "Sentimental Value" is scheduled for Thursday the 19th through Saturday the 21st at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Finally, be sure to make time to visit the following restaurants and bars, which will be offering drink, breakfast, or dinner specials all week long: The Bear Trap, Chef Darrell's Mountain Diner, Indian Lake Restaurant & Tavern, and McSweeney's Irish Pub.
