Schroon Lions Club celebrates holiday season success

SCHROON | On Monday, Dec. 15, the Town of Schroon Lake Lions Club celebrated their festive annual holiday dinner at the Lodge at Schroon Lake. "Most of the times that our Lions meet, we are working on Lions projects that better our community, our region and wherever Lions Clubs International can make a positive contribution," explained Roger Friedman, Lions Club member. "This was an evening with a party atmosphere but still with a goal of raising money for the Schroon Lake Food Pantry. We are proud to have donated $3,770 to the Food Pantry." In continuing with the "We Serve" Lions Motto, on Dec. 23 the Schroon Lions Club continued with their 60-plus-year tradition of distributing Holiday Boxes of Food in the Towns of Schroon and North Hudson. This year, 50 boxes were distributed, and this was made possible by partnering with the local Tops Friendly Market. "Not only did Tops make a generous donation, but with their assistance, donations from other vendors made this project a success," Friedman said. "As always, Tops' employees really got into the Holiday spirit and did a fabulous job of preparing the boxes, helping make this project a resounding success." This year from Tops, Kia Lapier, Cathy Shaughnessy, Bella Ennenga, and store manager Scott Clarke were the key helpers. The Schroon Lions Club continues to help those in need locally and in the general region, including the "Lions See" vision testing program in the schools, Peace Poster Contest, Lions Den at the Library, Adopt A Highway, School Backpack Program, Lions Scholarships, Schroon Lake Ice Out Contest, Memorial Day Garage Sale, collecting used glasses, and more. Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world; where there's a need, there's a Lion. Those interested in making a difference in their community are encouraged to consider joining the Town of Schroon Lions Club. Feel free to contact a local Lion. "We are positive that you will find much personal satisfaction in helping others," Friedman said. "Schroon Lake's 2025 citizen of the year, Peter Johnson, is also this year's King Lion. There is no doubt that together we can do so much."
