Warren Co. supervisors bid farewell

QUEENSBURY | The Warren County Board of Supervisors bid adieu to five of their colleagues Dec. 19 during the last meeting of 2025. Stony Creek Supervisor Frank Thomas, Queensbury at-Large Supervisor Brad Magowan, Lake Luzerne Supervisor Gene Merlino, Horicon Supervisor Michael Geraci and Johnsburg Supervisor Kevin Bean were all thanked for their public service and received U.S. flags that flew over the county. State Sen. Dan Stec and Assemblyman Matt Simpson attended to offer their regards as well, and a reception was held after the meeting. Supervisors also hosted Dave Wick, Executive Director of the Lake George Park Commission, as he is retiring this year after a 33-year career dedicated to Warren County's natural resources. Before serving nearly 14 years with the Park Commission, Wick spent nearly 19 years with Warren County Soil & Water Conservation District. The last 2025 meeting of the Warren County Board of Supervisors also included the following legislative actions: -A resolution to request New York State Legislature legislation to allow Warren County to consider a potential sales tax increase was pulled from the meeting's resolutions without a vote. -The board approved Occupancy Tax promotional funding for 2026 to tourism-related events and businesses. (This funding was in addition to annual funding to five "signature" events -- Americade, Adirondack Nationals Car Show, Adirondack Balloon Festival, Lake George Winter Carnival and World's Largest Garage Sale.) -State Sen. Dan Stec presented Warren County Health Services with a Senate proclamation honoring the agency's 100-year anniversary, which occurred earlier this year. -Warren County was notified it has received a $50,000 New York State grant to study potential recreational uses for the county-owned rail corridor. The board's next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 6, when the reorganization meeting is held to select a chair of the board. This meeting at Warren County Municipal Center will begin at 11 a.m., and is open to the public. It will also be livestreamed on YouTube.
