Ft. William Henry launches Artillery Preservation Campaign

LAKE GEORGE | The French and Indian War Society at Lake George is calling on supporters, history enthusiasts, and community members to help preserve one of the site's most iconic and beloved features, the fort's historic artillery. Fort William Henry's artillery program plays a vital role in bringing 18th-century history to life through daily demonstrations, guided tours, school programs, and reenactments. However, several of the wheels on the museum's historic cannon carriages have reached the end of their safe and functional lifespan. To ensure the continued operation of these essential interpretive pieces, the museum is partnering with the French and Indian War Society of Lake George to raise funds for the construction of historically accurate, hand-built replacement wheels. Thanks to the community's early support, they've already raised $1,625 toward restoring Fort William Henry's historic artillery. Fort William Henry Corps will match donations up to $2,000 through 2025, meaning they have raised $3,350 in total. ARTILLERY PRESERVATION CAMPAIGN FUNDING PROGRAM Two pairs of 42" wheels for two 6-pound Bronze Field Cannon $5,000 One pair of 57" wheels for our French Siege Cannon $6,500 Total Goal: $12,000 These replacements are crucial for maintaining safety for staff and visitors, preserving the integrity of the artillery, and sustaining the immersive historical experiences the Fort is known for. To increase the impact of community support, Fort William Henry Corps will match donations up to $2,000 through 2025, allowing donors to double the value of their contribution.
