Kevin K. Cooper

WESTPORT | Kevin Cooper passed away on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025. He was born in Boston, Mass., son of the late June Cooper and the late William Cooper. He is survived by his brothers Kenneth (Kathy) Cooper and Kent Cooper and nieces Rachael Cooper and Madeline Cooper; nephews Kent Cooper Jr. and Anthony Cooper; as well as many cousins. Kevin went to school in New Hartford, N.Y., Buffalo, N.Y., then on to college at Alfred State College and State University of New York at Buffalo, graduating with a degree in occupational therapy. As an occupational therapist he worked in several locales: Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Florida, Virginia, and finally, in the Adirondack area of upstate New York. He especially loved providing skilled O.T. care to the people in rural communities. He considered every patient to be a great privilege to know and treat, giving above and beyond the standard measure of care. He took extra time researching particular diagnoses of his patients with rare conditions so to best bring about mobility, communication and agency. He received several recognitions for his work. His family and friends are proud of all the good he has done in people's lives. Everyone who knew Kevin knew how much he loved living on Lake Champlain. Having spent summers throughout his life at the historic Mulliken & Keller's Camp Lochanbrae in the Town of Essex, N.Y. He learned how to sail, eventually becoming a captain of his own sailboat, "The Second Wind," and commodore of the Split Rock Yacht Club for a period of time (affiliated with The Crater Club). There he made many lifelong friends, enjoyed a lifetime of summers with his wider family, growing up, becoming adults and learning to give back to community, including by scuba diving to set moorings for sailboats in Whallons Bay. Kevin loved spending time sailing on Lake Champlain as well as with the Essex Theatre, where he became friends with the Poppinos. The greatest loss to all who knew him well is the absence of his music. A talented guitarist and singer (he would join with anyone loving local folk music) spending time enjoying great music together with "The Jamb Band" (Willsboro and Essex, N.Y.). Kevin loved spending time with friend "TJ" playing guitar and hanging out.
