CPKC Holiday Train lights passage throughout the region

PLATTSBURGH | Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited (CPKC) brought their Holiday Train up from Fort Edward over 150 miles through small towns past historic sites, forest edges and inlets on Lake Champlain for stops at Port Henry, Plattsburgh and in Rouses Point. Wrapped in magic made with blinking holiday lights and bright winter messages, CPKC delivers funds for food shelves, sets food collection points and a stage show at every stop. In Moriah, the Chamber of Commerce collected goods for the Moriah Food Pantry and worked with community groups to serve hot cocoa, coffee and hotdogs. "A special thank-you to CP Rail for their generous $4,000 donation. Your support makes a real difference in our community," the chamber shared on social media. On its merry way, CPKC drew thousands out to watch its passage, from inns in Ticonderoga, to little town overlooks, from the historic Westport Depot, through Essex and Willsboro, slipping past the quiet of Ausable Marsh and over the bridge past the Old Base. In Plattsburgh, a crowd of over 1,000 lined both sides of the tracks behind fencing, helping keep people safely away from the wheels. The show opened on the Lake Champlain side of the rail line this year, where people swarmed to see a live music set on a boxcar stage with Tyler Shaw and Brittany Kennell. The rainy night made a mirror out of tarmac, reflecting lit messages. Kids of all ages chattered excitedly as they heard the long whistles blow in approach. At the historic Amtrak depot in Plattsburgh, the train stretched 1,000 feet from the crossing gate off Dock Street up along Bridge Street. The engine parked near the Saranac River. Staff from the Joint Council of Economic Opportunity (JCEO) brought Santa Claus with their truck to accept donations In Rouses Point, the Holiday Train pulled into the depot at Pratt Street, and the community brought food items for St. Patrick's Food Pantry. As night deepened and west winds picked up, CPKC blew its whistle over the border. A tradition for many families to see, no matter the hour or weather, CPKC Holiday Train schedules cover four weeks across the U.S. and Canada, connecting communities with music and magic. The holiday railroad journey is designed to spread holiday grace and raise awareness about food insecurity.
