Hochul signs legislation providing in-state tuition eligibility to Team USA athletes

ALBANY | Assemblymember Robert Carroll (D/WF-44) announced that his bill A.761/S.8220, which makes Team USA athletes training for the Olympics and Paralympics in New York eligible for in-state tuition at SUNY and CUNY schools, was signed into law by Gov. Hochul Nov. 22. This legislation will help keep New York competitive with states such as California, Colorado, and Utah that provide in-state tuition to Team USA Olympic athletes in training. Offering this benefit will increase the likelihood that elite American athletes will choose to study in New York while they continue their training. "As the host of two previous Winter Olympic Games and one of two states with US Olympic and Paralympic training centers, New York has a deep and continuing Olympic tradition. With the enactment of this bill, Team USA athletes will be eligible to receive in-state tuition at public universities just as they do in California, Utah, and Colorado," said Assemblymember Robert Carroll. "Lake Placid recently renovated its Olympic sites and this initiative also reflects New York's enduring commitment to the Olympic spirit of international cooperation and our common humanity. I want to thank Governor Hochul for signing this bill into law."
