Clinton Co. leaders join historic Thanksgiving meal distribution

PLATTSBURGH | Clinton County leaders joined volunteers and the Regional Food Bank on Saturday morning for the organization's first-ever Thanksgiving Meal Distribution held in the North Country. The event, hosted at the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing on the Clinton Community College campus, brought together community members to assemble and distribute more than 400 Thanksgiving meal bags for local families. This historic collaboration marked an important moment for the region, providing families with the ingredients for a holiday meal while strengthening connections among volunteers, elected officials, and longtime partners committed to supporting residents in need. Chairman Mark Henry (Chazy, Area 3-R) reflected on the meaning behind the day's effort. "Thanksgiving is a time when we celebrate family, community, and the country we share—and no one should have to approach this holiday wondering whether they'll have enough to eat," Henry said. "Having the Regional Food Bank here in the North Country for the first time reinforces what this season is truly about: stepping up for our neighbors. We're grateful for the opportunity to support this effort, no matter how small our part may be, and to help ensure that every family has the chance to sit down to a holiday meal." The distribution event moved quickly, with volunteers of all ages working side by side to pack bags, greet residents, and help carry boxes to cars. The steady stream of community involvement underscored the shared belief that no family should face the holidays alone. Legislator Kevin Randall was also on hand to help. "Today was a great reminder of what makes this community special. We all know families who could use a little extra support around the holidays, and being out here helping our neighbors felt like the right thing to do. I'm grateful to everyone who showed up, rolled up their sleeves, and made sure folks head into Thanksgiving with a good meal and a little peace of mind." Legislator Paul Lamoy (Plattsburgh, Area 8-D) ,who also participated, emphasized that sense of unity. "It was an honor to be part of this first distribution in our region," Lamoy said. "Seeing so many people come together to support local families is what makes this community special. I'm glad we could lend a hand." Legislator-Elect Ron Deragon, attending as he prepares to begin his term, noted the importance of stepping into public service with a focus on compassion. "It's meaningful to see the community come together in this way," Deragon said. "As I prepare to step into this role, I'm reminded that public service begins with showing up for the people who need us most. I'm grateful to the Regional Food Bank and all the volunteers for making sure local families can celebrate Thanksgiving with dignity and a full table." County officials extended their appreciation to the Regional Food Bank for expanding its reach to the North Country and for coordinating such an impactful event. They also thanked the volunteers, staff, and partner organizations whose efforts ensured a smooth and successful distribution. This year, the Regional Food Bank provided the largest single-day Thanksgiving Meal Distribution in New York State, handing out 350,000 meals and serving 75,000 people at 21 distribution sites across the 23 counties in the Food Bank's service area.
