Westport Winterfest returns Dec. 6

WESTPORT | For six years, locals surrounding the town have gathered together for good cheer, and this year is no exception, as Westport Winterfest is returning on Dec. 6. "This event is truly 'all hands on deck' to deck the halls — over 30 local elves (business owners, staff, and volunteers) are working behind the scenes to make the season magical for everyone," says Jen Williams, president-elect of the Westport-Wadhams Community Alliance. "Winterfest is more than a celebration; it's a cheerful expression of our mission at the alliance, to bring people together, support local culture and commerce, and build lasting connections. It reminds us that Westport is not just a place to visit in the summer; it's a home for community and holiday cheer, where families, neighbors, and visitors can make memories for generations." The day-long event will kick off at 8 a.m. with breakfast and a craft sale at the Westport Federated Church until 10:30 a.m.; free drinks at JAMBS from Chazy/Westport Communications until 2 p.m.; and a tree and wreath sale hosted by the Boy Scouts on the Heritage House lawn until 4 p.m. Starting at 10 a.m., the festivities will really kick in, with cookie decorating at Bradamant Realty until noon, temporary tattoos with Caroline at Ledge Hill Studio Downtown until 1 p.m., and the Bessboro Shop Discount sale until 5 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., several activities will take place. At the Heritage House, there will be a guest book signing, an indoor yard sale, memory tree ornament decorating, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus cutouts. At the same time, the Westport Library will host a Letters to Santa workshop and a kids' winter coat swap, organized by the Griffin Guardian Alliance. As the day continues, the Westport Library will host a few other activities, such as stories and holiday craft making from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a movie screening of "Polar Express" with cocoa and cookies from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. That afternoon, there will also be storytime with Sarah Van Rijsewijk of "Santa and the Sled Dogs" at Snowfort Books from 1 to 3 p.m., a meet and greet at the newly-opened Finishing Store, and a special sale at Homestead Spirits — 10% off any purchase of $20 or more. On the Westport Library lawn at 5:30 p.m., the tree lighting ceremony will take place, along with singing with the Candy Cane Quartet and free candy canes for all. Following the ceremony, at 5:30 p.m. on the Westport Library lawn, there will be horse-drawn wagon rides and photo opportunities with Windy Woods Pastures. Then, at 5:45 p.m., the Santa Parade with the Westport Fire Department will start in Wadhams and then arrive on Main Street by 6 p.m. For more information or updates, visit gowestportny.com.
