Fort Ti receives two Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership grants

TICONDEROGA | Fort Ticonderoga has been awarded a 2025 Collections Grant and a 2025 Conservation Grant from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership to support conservation and enhance exhibition experience. The Collections Grant supported a new exhibit, "The Archaeology of Independence", which enhances visitor experience by providing a narrative of the Revolutionary War at Ticonderoga, using the actual artifacts from those events, recovered from the grounds of Fort Ticonderoga from 1775-1777. "The Archaeology of Independence" exhibit showcases the strengths of Fort Ticonderoga's unparalleled archaeological collections to complement Fort Ticonderoga's daily historical interpretation in actual objects and give context to that part of the broader Revolution that unfolded here. To increase accessibility and enhance the exhibition experience, Fort Ticonderoga partnered with Vermont State University's Innovation Lab to incorporate printed 3-D models of artifacts into the exhibit. "The work to preserve and interpret archaeological materials aligns with Fort Ticonderoga's broader efforts to care for the many individual stories that shape our understanding of the Revolutionary era," said Miranda Peters, Fort Ticonderoga Vice President of Collections. Fort Ticonderoga holds an 18th-century portrait of Margaret Schoolcraft-Brush-Wall, who lived through the Revolutionary era in New York and Vermont. Her story provides an opportunity to highlight the experiences of loyalists and women, whose decisions and fates often defy simple narratives, providing useful perspectives as the museum continues commemorating the 250th Anniversary of these events. Her portrait was conserved, in part, by the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership to be on display in the 2026 exhibit "A Revolutionary Anthology: Revolutionary Possibilities" to help tell the many stories of the Revolution in this multi-year exhibition.
