Tannery Pond to celebrate veterans with free concert

NORTH CREEK | North Country veterans, past and present, will be celebrated and offered free admission to a Nov. 9 concert at Tannery Pond Center with Adirondack balladeer and Army veteran Dan Berggren. Berggren, a lifelong Adirondacker and accomplished songwriter and guitarist, will be joined by renowned dance fiddler Cedar Stanistreet, a Crane School of Music graduate who grew up in the Johnsburg area. The concert will feature many of Berggren's heartfelt and locally inspired songs. In appreciation of all veterans, their entry fee will be waived, although reservations should be made in advance to assure sufficient seating for all. The number for tickets is 518-251-2505. The concert will run from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, two days before the Veterans Day holiday. Guests 18 and under will also be offered free tickets, with reservations. The price to regular customers is $20 in advance and $25 at the door, although reservations are highly recommended. The concert will kick off the end-of-year annual appeal drive for Tannery Pond Center. The goal is to raise $65,000 to help fund concerts, gallery exhibits, Tannery Talks, children's activities, and community events in 2026. "Our Veterans are the heart of our communities and civic life throughout the Adirondacks," said Mindy Preuninger, program chair at Tannery Pond. "This is a small but heartfelt gesture to let them know we appreciate their service. No matter when or how long they served, we remain grateful." Berggren, raised in Olmstedville and a student at St. Lawrence University, enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War and served three years as an Army broadcaster. He has been writing and performing songs since he was 12 and has produced more than 20 records with his own company, Sleeping Giant Records. For 30 years, Berggren has performed repeatedly with Cedar Stanistreet. A master fiddler, Stanistreet has explored and performed Irish, Quebequois, and American Old Time music, becoming a renowned contra dance fiddler, particularly of traditional Irish songs near his home in Southern Vermont. Tannery Pond Center, which is dedicated to bringing the best performances, art exhibits and community events to the Gore Mountain Region, is on the corner of Route 28N and Main Street, North Creek.
