Saranac Lake erases 24-7 deficit to edge Beekmantown

BEEKMANTOWN | Saranac Lake rallied from a 24-7 deficit late in the third quarter to stun Beekmantown 28-24 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference football Friday, Oct. 24. Down by 17 with 3:34 left in the third, the Red Storm erupted for 21 unanswered points, capped by a 25-yard touchdown run from David Montroy with 7:44 remaining to take their first lead. From there, Saranac Lake's defense made key stops on Beekmantown's final drives to secure the comeback win. Montroy powered the Red Storm (5-3, 5-2 CVAC) with 18 carries for 173 yards and three touchdowns, including scoring runs of 5, 4, and 25 yards. Quarterback Evan Harvey completed 20 of 28 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Scottie Nicholas on a 74-yard strike late in the third quarter that pulled Saranac Lake within three points. Beekmantown (4-4, 3-4 CVAC) built its early advantage behind quarterback Hunter Porter, who threw two touchdowns and ran for another. Porter finished 14 of 20 for 196 yards through the air and added 64 yards on 16 carries. His 16-yard scoring pass to Garrett Pelkey midway through the third quarter put the Eagles up 24-7 before Saranac Lake's rally began. Pelkey caught six passes for 79 yards and a score, while Shamus Bibeau added four receptions for 67 yards and an 80-yard kickoff return touchdown in the second quarter.
