In 2nd OT, Lake George boys win Adk. League championship

SCHUYLERVILLE | The Adirondack League Boys Soccer Championship game couldn't have been more dramatic for Lake George and Argyle players, their coaches, and fans. This title showdown between the two schools' soccer programs was held Oct. 18 on Schuylerville High School's soccer field, and Lake George won the game as the second overtime concluded. With only three minutes and 24 seconds left until the two teams would have to share the coveted championship title, Lakers' senior midfielder Thomas Kohls drilled the ball into the net, prompting cheers from the Lake George fans. The league title was Lake George boys' first since 2021. Throughout the game, each team executed a strong defense and an aggressive offensive attack. In a regular-season game Sept. 17 between Lake George and Argyle, the competition was similarly intense — Lake George senior forward Richard Stroup scored the winning goal, with an assist from senior midfielder Peter Barrett, for the 2-1 victory 30 seconds before regulation time expired. In the championship game, the Lakers exhibited strong defense, which has been their routine all year. As of Oct. 19, the Lakers had earned 10 shutouts and their junior goaltender Marty Farrell had allowed only five goals in 15 games. Their 2025 win-loss-tie record was 11-1-3 overall and 8-0-1 in league play. Leading the defense, in addition to Farrell, have been seniors Colton Shepard, Erik LaFond, and Ryan Baldwin, as well as juniors Justin Savale, Nolan Stannard, and Tyler Morales. First-year Lake George Varsity Soccer Coach Quincy Devlin offered his thoughts following the game. "Argyle is a very good team — they gave us some trouble earlier this season, as they have fast players on defense — but we were confident we could keep them off the score sheet in this game," he said. Coach Devlin praised Kohls — not only for his feat in securing the league title, but also for his performance through the season. "Kohls is one of our senior leaders — he's technically talented and has been competing on varsity a long time," Devlin said. "He and our other senior leaders keep our younger players on track and focused on our goals." Devlin said the team was looking forward to the Sectional playoffs, adding that Section II Class C was "very competitive" this year. The opening round of the playoffs is scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 24. He said he was confident that the players will wage a strong postseason campaign. "i couldn't ask for a better group of athletes," Devlin said. "They are eager to learn what I and our other coaches teach them…and they have been working hard in practices."
