Construction begins on Shepard Park Amphitheater

LAKE GEORGE | The Village of Lake George has announced that construction has officially commenced on the long-anticipated Shepard Park Amphitheater Reconstruction Project. Following the completion of bidding and contractor selection, work is now underway to transform one of the region's most beloved performance spaces into a safe, modern, and dynamic community venue. This landmark project will enhance the amphitheater with a fully redesigned performance stage, updated seating, improved accessibility, new landscaping, upgraded audio/visual and lighting systems, and a dedicated storage and community space in the lower level. These improvements will honor the park's historic character while ensuring the venue meets the needs of contemporary performers, audiences, and year-round programming. The Village emphasizes the importance of public safety during the construction period. Residents and visitors are urged to follow all posted signage, remain outside of designated fencing, and respect the construction boundaries to ensure the project proceeds smoothly and safely. Construction will have a limited impact on upcoming events, including Oktoberfest and Columbus Day Weekend celebrations, Light Up the Village in late November and the Winter Carnival in February. The cooperation of the community is vital in maintaining a safe environment as work continues. "Shepard Park has always been at the heart of our village's cultural and community life. This reconstruction will elevate what we can offer to residents and visitors alike and will build upon what makes Lake George special," Mayor Ray Perry said. "These improvements are about more than just a stage—they represent our commitment to community, culture, tradition, and the future of Lake George," he said. Construction is expected to be completed by Spring 2026, ahead of the performance season. Once finished, the new amphitheater will serve as a regional hub for concerts, cultural programming, and community gatherings, strengthening Lake George as a premier destination. "We couldn't be more excited with the product that we're getting and the team of contractors we've put together," said Director of Planning and Zoning Dan Barusch. "Many thanks goes out to the folks at New York State agencies and in the legislature who helped us fund this project". The Shepard Park Amphitheater Reconstruction is supported by New York State's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), a program dedicated to transforming downtown neighborhoods into vibrant, walkable destinations. Lake George's selection for this funding reflects the project's ability to advance cultural, economic, and community vitality in such an important regional destination.
