Rustic Acres Farm to host Harvest Festival this weekend

THURMAN | Rustic Acres Farm and Bakery is hosting its Fall Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 12, and the event includes farm tours, craft vendors, homemade baked goods, live music, and encounters with farm animals. Owned by Todd and Flo Olden, Rustic Acres Farm also has a gift shop, offering a variety of mementos, craft items and Hidden Hollow maple products. Rustic Acres Farm is located at 107 Huber Road in Thuman. Over the two-day event, visitors will be squeezing juice from local apples by operating a manual apple press — to make apple cider as it was produced in the olden days on rural farms. People of all ages will enjoy encountering goats, cows, pigs and chickens raised on the farm. As many as 15 vendors will be on site, showing their craftworks, including folk art, antiques, gourd art, jewelry, crochet work, gemstones, and much more. Also, members of the group Way of the Willow will be hosting a holistic artisan market on-site featuring their natural oils, herbs, salves and other healing products. Live Americana/country roots music is to be performed by guitarist-vocalist Dave Hyde. Food to be available, in addition to Flo's baked goods, includes sausage and pepper sandwiches, fried dough, and coffee. Other local attractions over the weekend include Thurman's annual Townwide Yard Sale, likely to include several dozen families offering a variety of items. This sale is set for both Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 12. In addition, a quilters' show and sale is to be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Thurman Town Hall, located at 311 Athol Road in the hamlet of Athol.
