Daniels rushes for 305 yards, sets Saranac record

TICONDEROGA | Zander Daniels rushed 10 times for 305 yards and six touchdowns in Saranac's 53-6 win over Ticonderoga in CVAC football on Friday, Oct. 3, at Sentinel Field. The senior back broke the program's single-game rushing record, surpassing Nick Desroches' 297-yard mark set against Plattsburgh High in 2007. Daniels racked up 241 yards and five touchdowns in just the first half. "Offensively, we just looked great and downfield blocking was tremendous," Daniels said. "Once we get going, man, it's hard to stop us. We fight forward, and we don't stop pushing. "Our linemen were on point today. Our downfield blocking, our pulls, everything. It was excellent. We just did our assignments properly." Saranac's offense rolled up 499 yards, and the Spartans found the end zone on six of its first 12 plays. Branigan Boulds took a jet sweep 55 yards to the end zone, and in the third quarter, Corbin Duffield connected with Chace Scovil on an 84-yard touchdown pass. Duffield completed five of six passes for 137 yards and a touchdown, with Scovil and Boulds each leading Saranac with two receptions. Boulds and Antoney Bingham each recorded an interception for the Spartans. Saranac has won three consecutive games after opening the season with back-to-back losses to Ogdensburg Free Academy and Beekmantown. "It's a great team win for us," Spartans head coach Dylan Everleth said. "I thought everybody played really well, and we didn't make a lot of mistakes. Consistency's been one of our biggest things over the past couple weeks, and I thought right from the start, we executed well on all three sides of the football, and got it done as a team." Ticonderoga pulled within 21-6 with 2:49 remaining in the first quarter, when Jackson Dorsett hit Trevor Blanchard for a 64-yard strike. Dorsett was 13-of-23 for 111 yards and a touchdown, while Blanchard caught six passes for 81 yards and a score. The Ticonderoga Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed four new members as part of its Class of 2025 during a ceremony at halftime. Honorees included Joe Defayette, Lillith Ida, Brian Kiely, and Matt Streeter.
