General Election Early Voting is Oct. 25 to Nov. 2

PLATTSBURGH | In New York State, Early Voting polls are open daily for nine days prior to the General Election. This year, the early dates are from Oct. 25 to Nov. 2. Election Day is Nov. 4 and, on that day, polls are open locally in every voting district. In Clinton County early voting takes place at the John H. Zurlo Clinton County Government Center in the first floor meeting room, 137 Margaret St. in the City of Plattsburgh. Polls will be open on the following dates and times: Oct. 25 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 26 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 27 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct, 29 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 30 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 2 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voting during early voting hours is the same as voting on Election Day, the county Board of Election explains. "When you get to the early voting polling location, 137 Margaret St., you check in to vote, receive your ballot, and vote as in any other election. There will be instructions available at the early voting poll site to familiarize you with the ballot. There will also be a notice to voters, and a voter bill of rights posted. You may ask an election inspector to explain ballot instructions, or if you need any assistance." Voters who participate in early voting are not eligible to vote on Election Day. Early voting results are counted and reported after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4 for the General Election. To check your voter registration, use the state's online Voter Lookup portal: voterlookup.elections.ny.gov REGISTER TO VOTE The deadline for voter registration in New York State is Oct. 25. There is no same-day registration in NYS. But a voter could register and vote on the same day on Golden Day: the first day of early voting, which is Oct. 25. A law passed by legislature in 2023 approved the measure because that one day overlaps the ten-day prior requirement for registration. Deadline for Mail Registration: Applications must be received by a board of elections no later than October 25 to be eligible to vote in the General Election. Deadline for In Person Registration: register at the local board of elections in Plattsburgh on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the Nov. 4, 2025 General Election, the application must be received no later than October 25. To qualify for voter registration in New York State, applicants must: be a United States citizen be 18 years old (you may pre-register at age 16 or 17, but cannot vote until you are 18) be a resident of this state and the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election not be in prison for a felony conviction not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court not claim the right to vote elsewhere To register online you will need to use a NY.Gov ID. If you have previously used a NY.Gov ID with another agency, you may use the same login to access the Online Voter Registration portal.
