Planned Parenthood launches emergency funding campaign

ELIZABETHTOWN | In response to a recent federal court ruling blocking Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid reimbursement, Planned Parenthood of the North Country New York (PPNCNY) has launched an urgent, community-driven fundraising effort to protect access to essential health care for thousands of local patients. The two-month campaign, Fund PPNCNY: A North Country Call to Action, will run from Oct. 1 through Dec. 1, with a goal of raising $100,000. These funds will help offset the devastating loss of Medicaid reimbursement — a vital source of funding that supported care for more than 4,000 Medicaid patients across the region in 2024. "We've been defunded – but we're not backing down," said Crystal Collette, President and CEO of PPNCNY. "We are still a Medicaid provider, and our doors are open. But without reimbursement, we are now absorbing the full cost of care for thousands of patients — and we simply cannot sustain that alone." Despite losing the ability to bill Medicaid, PPNCNY is continuing to provide care at no cost to Medicaid patients — a reflection of the organization's mission, but one that is financially unsustainable without community support. PPNCNY serves patients across Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Clinton, Essex, and Franklin Counties — areas already facing severe health care shortages. If Planned Parenthood clinics are forced to reduce services or close, most other local providers would be unable to absorb the patient volume. "This isn't just about Planned Parenthood," Collette continued. "This is about keeping care local. Without community support, patients in the North Country will lose access to essential services such as cancer screenings, birth control, and wellness visits." As part of the campaign, each participating county will spotlight a real patient story, highlighting the personal impact of this funding crisis. PPNCNY is also encouraging a friendly fundraising competition between counties to emphasize that every community has a role to play in protecting care.
