Two on ballot for Area 6 Legislator's seat

PLATTSBURGH | Two candidates are running to represent Area 6 in the Clinton County legislature, Republican Jennifer Facteau-Rabideau and Democrat Jessie Furnia. Area 6 encompasses the Town of Saranac, the Cadyville section of the Town of Plattsburgh, and portions of Black Brook, a region outlined in the southwestern corner of Clinton County. Election Day is Nov. 4. Dr. Jennifer Facteau-Rabideau DNP, RN, ANP-C Party Affiliation: Republican Age: 47 Education: High school (Regents) graduate, Saranac Central School, 1996; Associate Degree in Nursing (RN), Clinton Community College, 1998; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), SUNY Plattsburgh, 2003; Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN), Stony Brook University, 2012; Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Frontier Nursing University, 2025. Occupation: Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner, currently at Plattsburgh Medical Care; Deputy Coroner Clinton County; owner, Small Town Health Care. Previous Government/Civic experience: Currently, deputy coroner in Clinton County. I have officiated and coached softball, baseball, and soccer since I was a teenager. Leader, Happy Hustlers 4-H Club; member, Saranac United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School; former member, Saranac Volunteer Fire Department and an EMT; staff member, Clinton County COVID vaccine clinic from inception in 2021. What is the most pressing challenge facing Area 6/Clinton County in the coming term? There are multiple challenges that our area faces, including poverty, homelessness, transportation barriers, infrastructure issues, and a housing shortage. How will you address it? If elected as the Area 6 legislator, there will be a sharp learning curve for me. As a small business owner, decision-making can be done relatively quickly. Since my appointment as deputy coroner, I have learned that decision-making is a lengthy process, and it takes multiple steps to make any change in local government. I plan to address the challenges of our county with a well researched, common sense, no-nonsense approach that best meets the needs of my constituents. Jessie Furnia Party Affiliation: Democrat Age: 44 Education: Clinton Community College and SUNY Plattsburgh, Humanities and Social Sciences. Occupation: Small business owner, painting instructor. Previous Government/Civic experience: Member, Au Sable Forks Free Library Board of Trustees; volunteer, resource support for community projects at area schools, nursing homes, mental health centers, and community events; previously served as operations specialist for the United States Olympic Committee, supporting athlete and staffing needs and accommodations. What is the most pressing challenge facing Area 6/Clinton County in the coming term? My goal as legislator is to look at all issues on the table from multiple points of view and find creative solutions for the best interest of our towns, people and county. There will be many new challenges that will be affecting our area with the gutting of our Medicaid programs, SNAP and many other programs that help our families and the most vulnerable population survive. How will you address it? Addressing these issues coupled with inflation, rise of energy prices is a main priority. While serving on committees, I would advocate for the best solution to help our communities and the people of Clinton County. I aspire to help attract and promote strong job opportunities with livable wages and to advocate for solutions as we navigate our future of Clinton County.
