Updated: Search for murder suspect expands north

BRIGHTON | Authorities from multiple agencies are continuing to search for a murder suspect whose last known whereabouts were believed to be in Franklin County. The search for Anthony G. Bechand, 53, was launched Sunday morning after a woman was found deceased inside a Cohoes residence. An investigation determined that Bechand fled the residence in a white 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, which was abandoned later Sunday on County Route 60 at the intersection of County Route 86 in Brighton. Bechand is believed to have fled in an unknown direction and was wearing an unknown outfit at the time of his departure. He is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair. A multi-agency search for Bechand is currently underway in the area where his vehicle was located. Anyone who has seen Bechand or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the New York State Police at 518-897-2000. Please do not approach him, as he may be armed and dangerous. An autopsy is being conducted on the victim, 41-year-old Amanda Rodriguez, at Ellis Hospital today by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Bernard Ng, to determine her cause and manner of death, police said in an update midday Monday. The New York State Forest Rangers and U.S. Customs and Border Protection are assisting the New York State Police and the Cohoes Police Department.
