Peru shines in sweep as CVAC volleyball heats up

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference volleyball action continued with four matches on Tuesday, Sept. 9, with Peru, Saranac Lake and Beekmantown winning in straight sets and Plattsburgh High edging Saranac in four sets. Peru 3, Northern Adirondack 0 25-23, 25-14, 25-19 PERU | Peru handled Northern Adirondack in straight sets, with strong hitting and serving throughout the match. Alysa Darrah contributed five points, one ace and five digs, while Amelia Siskavich added seven points, one ace, four kills and five digs. Natalia Gushlaw-Mirville finished with seven points, three aces, four kills and seven assists. Lily Siskavich also recorded six points, two aces, four kills and seven assists. Northern Adirondack's Jazmin Dennis led all players with eight points, including one ace. Allie LaPoint and Allie Nelson each tallied 11 digs, while Zoee Cook contributed six points, one ace and four assists. "The set scores do not really show the actual play of the game," Northern Adirondack head coach Elizabeth Brown said. "Both teams fought hard for every point with some long rallies throughout the match. Peru is a strong hitting and serving team and we did our best to match them. Both teams had a lot of energy on the court last night." Saranac Lake 3, AuSable Valley 0 25-11, 25-11, 25-7 SARANAC LAKE | Saranac Lake rolled past AuSable Valley in three quick sets. Sophie Czadzeck led the Red Storm with 16 points, including 10 aces, and added three kills and 12 assists. Gracen Foster contributed eight kills and five points, while Melody Costigan had 10 points, including six aces. Lyndsee Reardon handed out four assists and scored a point, and Lilly Kipping added three kills and four points. For AuSable Valley, Raegan Douglass had four points, one ace and three digs. Evalyn Parrow-Rascoe added three digs, two assists, two kills and three points, while Kaylee Axtell blocked two shots and added one ace. Plattsburgh High 3, Saranac 1 25-23, 22-25, 26-24, 25-17 PLATTSBURGH | Plattsburgh High survived a four-set battle with Saranac, securing a hard-fought victory. Marlie Walker led the Hornets with 11 points, four aces, 27 assists and six digs. Essynce Gorham added nine points and eight kills, while Cali Ryerson contributed eight points and seven kills. Olivia Lathrop had nine points and seven kills. For Saranac, Isabella Curtis tallied 11 points and seven kills, and Megan Gangwer added eight points and four kills. Rowan Staples contributed 12 points, six kills and six aces, while Molly Gangwer recorded 13 digs and six points. Beekmantown 3, Lake Placid 0 25-16, 25-18, 25-14 BEEKMANTOWN | Beekmantown defeated Lake Placid in straight sets on the road. Ava Dauphinais led the Eagles with 12 points, including three aces and eight assists. Julia Conroy added seven points and five kills, while Kylie Bishop contributed seven points, four kills and four aces. Jade Burdo scored six points with four kills, and Sawyer Fleming added five points, one kill and 12 assists. Sophia Kenyon finished with six kills and three aces. Lake Placid's individual statistics were unavailable at press time.
